As I mentioned in my previous post, the Christmas holiday is brimming with math. Asking questions about math is one of the best things you can do to build your child’s early math skills. Give your child the gift of math confidence this Christmas by incorporating some math talk into the holiday festivities!
In the Kitchen
Children love to help out in the kitchen. Embrace the mess and ask some math questions while they’re spilling flour all over the floor!

Around the Christmas Tree
The Christmas tree is the center of attention throughout the holidays. Whether you’re admiring the lights and ornaments or sneaking a peak at presents under the tree, there are so many opportunities to build early math skills.

Traditions
Every family has their own traditions and rituals around the holiday, and I promise you there’s some math hiding in each one! Just look for opportunities where you can count items, compare attributes, describe shapes, and make patterns.

Take Action
- Choose 2-3 moments during the Christmas preparations to intentionally incorporate math talk.
